Forest School
What is Forest School?
Forest School was inspired by the Scandinavian ideal of being outside within a natural environment where personal wellbeing and positive life learning experiences proved extremely beneficial to children. The aims of Forest School are to develop positive self-belief, creativity and outdoor exploration whilst working cooperatively with others. Children are able to achieve challenges they set for themselves within a supportive and progressive environment.
Forest School is led by Sophie, our qualified Forest School Leader and Forest School First Aider. It takes place in a beautiful area of private woodland just behind the nursery where small groups of children are closely supervised and within sight of staff at all times.
How old do children need to be to take part?
Forest School is for our toddlers and preschoolers aged from two to five years old.
What kind of activities are there?
Activities are primarily led by the children’s interests and their developing understanding of the woodland environment. These may include walking, pond dipping, tool use, fire lighting, building dens and shelters, climbing trees, collecting natural resources for picture making or telling stories.
I do not believe there is a method better than Montessori for making children sensitive to the beauties of the world and awakening their curiosity regarding the secrets of life.
